My Thoughts On Orangetheory Fitness

HAPPY MONDAY FRIENDS!

The best kind of mondays are the ones where its a holiday and we don’t have to go to work! haha thankful to have off today. It’s going to be a good short work week! Soo I wanted to start the week right and talk about my awesome workouts! I’ve gotten lots of questions regarding my health journey! So happy to say that I am one year into my new lifestyle of being active and eating grainless (95% of the time). More on that to come soon i promise! But one of my biggest goals last year was to become more fit and healthy. I mean out of breathe when climbing the stairs?! That needed to stop!

If you’re like me, i hated the gym. The same workouts, same environment, boring, boring and more boring for me. I had tried my own workouts, cardio only, BBG (does 1 week count?), and workouts out together by friends but i just couldn’t do it. Like my friend says “ You need to find what works best for you!” I needed to be more motivated and be pushed beyond what I thought i could do.

Many of you asked regarding the kind of workouts I do so i wanted to talk about my favorite place in the world besides the mall haha... ORANGETHEORY. Okay so let’s begin talking about this 1 hour workout class. Orangetheory Fitness is a 1 hour high intensity interval training class. The three main equipment we use in class is treadmills, rowers, and the floor for weights. It’s basically a rotation all around the room so you get to be on every equipment (they also have bikes and striders for those who prefer not for run).

AMBIENCE: Okay so if you’ve ever walked by a studio the first thing you probably hear is the loud music playing in the background. They have some amazing playlist with music that gets you pumped to run, row, & lift. You can probably hear the coaches as well talking into their headset and giving us some words of motivation to keep us going. This is an amazing environment to be in when your working out.

The workouts are amazing. They get your heart pumping and they push you mentally and psychically in EVERY class. Whether it’s from running at a new speed or going heavier on the weights, you are always sweating and having that heart pumping.

SCARY?: NOT AT ALL. This was my biggest fear when I showed to my first class alone. I hadn’t workout in a while and i knew i wasn’t going to be able to “keep up”. The best part of OTF is that everyone is doing their own thing. Some walk, some jog, and other sprint. Everyone is too busy working on themselves that no one cares if you picked up an 8 pound weight or if you’re just power walking. People are trying to reach their own personal goals there whether it’s a certain number of splat points or meters during a row.

MONITORS: One of the many awesome things about Orangetheory is that in order to keep track of calories, splat points, and heart rate, we wear heart monitors on our arms. Just a simple wristband thing that stays on the whole time while you work.

SPLATPOINTS: I am always posting about my workout summary on Instagram and get so many questions regarding what the heck splat points are! So according to the Orangetheory website they are ““Excess Post-Exercise Oxygen Consumption,” or EPOC. Our 1-hour workout is designed to produce 12 minutes or more of intensities at 84% or higher of maximum heart rate. This program design produces workout “after burn” effect, which is an increased metabolic rate for up to 36 hours after the workout. This process leads to higher calorie burn after the workout.

So what does that mean? Getting 12 points or more during a workout gives you an after burn effect. You’ll still continue to burn calories up to 36 hours after your workout.... i mean doesn’t that sound amazing?!

IS IT WORTH IT?!: Ummmm HECK YES. Honestly i started thinking the gym wasn’t for me but Orangetheory has made me fall in love with running, lifting, and seeing results. It has become a way of life and some may even say addicting haha. I’ve gotten 10 friends and family to join because they fell in love the first time they came.

BEST PART? NO WORKOUT IS THE SAME! Every day is new different workout!! It’s always a different day such as power, endurance, strength, and ESP (all three). Some days is running on inclines and other days is more distance running. We mix it up with the weights on the floor and sometimes just do the workouts with our body weight.

The best part of it is that your first workout is always free! They take time before and after your workout to explain EVERYTHING. If you’re looking for a place to get motivated, your heart pumping, stronger, & a fun workout, come try a class! You won’t regret it. Hope this post has inspired you to get active and become a healthier and stronger you!
