OFFICIALLY HOMEOWNERS!

WE BOUGHT A HOUSE! Wow I can’t believe that I am typing those words right now. Would you believe me if I told that we have been in the process of buying a home since 2019? It’s true haha! What a journey it has been but Let me start at the beginning.

Dan and I began our search before we got engaged. We knew that we were planning on getting married soon so we wanted to browse and see the market. Before we knew it was were pre-approved and the search had begun. We dragged our families everywhere to see homes for what felt like 6 months. We had seen over 20 homes and put In 3 offers. Our first home, the offer was declined and when we went to put in another offer, someone had beat us to it. The second home was our FAVORITE. We had gone through the process and was just waiting the inspection. We had found out that the back of the house was sinking and the owner didn’t want to budge on the price.

That house hurt because we had already pictured ourselves there and had taken our families to see it. Once again we were to searching for our future home. We looked at sooo many before we found a cute home and fell in love with the style. We had begun the process once again and was super close to the closing before something was wrong and bam we had to back out. After that home, we decided to take a break. Maybe God’s plan for us different than we had envisioned.

Man, let me tell you. God has saved us so many times. His plan for us was way better than what Dan and I had planned. The wedding, the pandemic, and the move all happened within the next few months. All the sudden we were talking about moving to another state and all those failed homes starting looking more and more like a blessing. Before we knew it, we had decided to move and we were in Georgia.

We rented our first year but knew that at the end of the lease, we wanted something different. We didn’t know if Atlanta was going to be our home so the talk about moving someplace else was always there. We had so many different plans and I had prayed to God daily to show me where he wanted us. Not only where he wanted us but what the next steps were. Should we rent? Purchase? Move to Tennessee? Florida? My prayers were worded like this exactly “God we will go wherever you want us to go, just show us what to do next”.

After Labor Day we toyed with the idea of possibly buying a house or land. For those who know us know that Dan has been working on our dream home since high school. So maybe it was time to build that? Well we started looking at land and honestly it just didn’t feel right. We had saved a few homes but nothing really spoke to us. Before his parents left from our week together at the beach, we went to dinner and decided that we should past by a house we had saved. Well we loved it and within 24 hours, we had scheduled to see it and got pre-approved. Man when I tell you that this moved quickly at first, I was like “Lord is this you? Is this you showing us what our next plan was?”

Unfortunately we lost out on the home to cash buyers. The market is crazy right now y’all. We were sad because those same emotions from two years ago came back. Was this just going to be a waste of time? We saw about a total of 10 homes and on our last day of looking and at the last house, we walked into our new home. The moment we walked in I told the realtor “This is the one. Dan is going to LOVE this”. It was the style we wanted but it needed WORK. If you know my husband, you know he is a jack of all trades. Not only does he fly planes but his favorite hobby is wood working. He does electric, plumbing, building, and everything. You name it, he can do it!

We decided that we would put in an offer just a bit over asking just in case. To be honest we were ready to give up.  Our realtor came back to us to let us know that this house had over 10 cash offers and many more because it was the perfect investor’s house. He was already working a list of new homes in the area to see because we were 100% sure this wasn’t going to work. I even told Dan that it wasn’t going to happen but he had held out hope. It was a week later and we hadn’t heard anything which we figured was a bad sign. We had a busy October with work and traveling 3/5 weekends so we were going to put off looking for homes for now. Then our realtor texted us letting us know that somehow, they had accepted our offer out of the 15+ they had. Um say what?!

We were shocked but amazed and ready to get this process going. I will say that I held my breathe up until the closing date because our date got pushed 3 times (happens all the time) but I was getting nervous. Things happen all the time with the inspection and loan process that you just never know. But man we did it and we finally have our home!

“For I know the plans I have for you,' declares the Lord, 'plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you a hope and a future.” I clung to that verse so much the past two years. He saved us from buying a home in NJ knowing that within in a few months, we’d either have to move or have Dan begin commuter life. For those who feel like life isn’t going the way you want it to be, trust that God has something better for you. We may not be able to see what is in store for us but I promise you that it will be better than you planned.

I hope you continue to follow us as we begin to remodel this whole house and make it our own. I will be sharing the whole process on Instagram so make sure you check it out. Thank you for all the love we have received with our exciting news! Have a great weekend friends!
