Future Home Plans & Local ATL Business

Happy Monday everyone! We have officially been down in Georgia for over a month and it’s safe to say that we love it. Life is so different down here and honestly can’t see myself living up north anymore 🤪 We have so many plans to visit home all the time so it’s like we are getting the best of both worlds!

So excited to be writing about local businesses once again. I am all for supporting the smaller brick and mortars stores. With this crazy pandemic going on, why not support your local businesses? You guys loved my series of local NJ business that I wanted to start sharing businesses in the Atlanta area.

We are in the next stage of life where we are thinking about settling down in the south. This has always been our plan for our future family. Now when ur comes to buying a “house”, we are really not fans. My husband is a woodworker, a contractor, and literally can do all things plumbing & electrician. Well since high school, we’ve always talked about building our dream house. Danny has been designing our dream home in our CAD class in high school. So we always knew that one day we would build it.

We wanted to create a space that really showed who we are and also be able to control most of the design aspects. Now we haven’t settled down just yet but this process has been in the works for a while now.

Even though our location to settle down and build is unknown, we love picking out what wood we would have, colors, windows, and literally every little detail. One thing we want and have always talked about having in our dream home is a great outdoor entertainment space. We love having friends and family over so we know a good deck along with an outdoor kitchen is something that is a must for us.

This is where dan comes in with his talk about which type of wood he would use for our outdoor space. He needs “Real Wood Decking”. He’s against composite (aka plastic) and pressure treated lumber because it’s painted but usually chips away and must be painted every year or two. He of course is all for Ipe. It’s one of the most commercially available hardwoods. The wood itself is just a beautiful piece of wood and like Dan said “it has a wow factor”.

Not only is decking huge for us, the indoor flooring is a major discussion between us. Danny is very into red/brown woods when I on  the other hand am more into the walnut color (aka a very expensive wood). So essentially we’ll settle with somewhere in the middle ( ha! Usually Dan wins in this area because of his expertise). In reality, we care more about quality over quantity! We rather pay more for a gorgeous wood flooring than just settle for crap.

My husband is a HUGE fan of Ipe wood. He loves that it’s a dense tropical wood from the brasilian rainforest and it’s surrounding areas. It’s one of the most rot and insect resistant woods available in the world. The durability rivals that of composite decking but it’s a natural wood product. Ipe grays out over the course of its life but it can also be maintained with a UV blocker to retain its deep reddish brown color. FYI these are his exact words haha so you can obviously tell that he loves this type of wood.

So when I came across Brazilian Wood Depot, we knew this would be the place for us. They offer different types of decking woods such as Ipe, Garapa, Tigerwood, Cumaru, Massaranduba, and Purpleheart. These wood types are all beautiful and tropical from the rainforest of Brazil making them rare and unique hardwood to use for your deck. I’ve also been researching real wood decking vs composite decking to help make a better decision on what would work best for any future projects we want to tackle.  I may be a little biased to this Georgia company because my husband is Brazilian and a woodworker but they offer the best and top quality woods. They are also local to the Atlanta area so for all my ATL peeps, look no further for good wood.

I hope you keep enjoying these local businesses post. It truly brings me joy to be able to make these businesses known on my blog and the social media world. Can’t wait to continue sharing local businesses with you all! Hope you all have a great week.

Xoxo
