House Hunting & Air Quality

It is no surprise that we are house hunting since the wedding is just 6 months away. It has been a few months of looking at homes and even putting in offers. It is such a long and stressful process because aside from like the exterior there is so much more. As of right now, we have seen about 40 homes and only two have really stuck with us. Beyond house hunting is all the inspections and structural problems that come with a house.

Our previous house was our favorite but it came with tons of issues which brings me to this weeks blog post. One main of the issues with this house was Mold and poor ventilation. There is poor ventilation in the attic, bathrooms, and basement/crawl space. This was retaining moisture in the air and created mold in the attic and crawl space. Myself having no idea what any of this was, was clueless with the amount of work that had to go into this. Even though we have continued hunting, this has opened my eyes to ventilation and air quality in my future home. My fiancé is huge on this because he already suffers from allergies, asthma, and bronchitis so air quality is something that is incredibly important in our home. Any type of dust and he flares up so can you imagine the air quality in your home if your vents haven’t been cleaned in years? Some of the side affects of poor air quality is irritated eyes, nose, throat, and fatigue. There is no way I’d want to be feeling like this on the daily. I mean who would?

I came across Nash Everett, a New Jersey based company, and read through their entire site. It’s crazy how important air quality is to our health. I mean duh its the air we breathe into our lungs and who wants to be breathing in unhealthy air. We have no idea the affect that poor air quality has on our health short and long term. Being healthy isn’t only about what we eat and how we workout but also about what products we use on our bodies and the air we are breathing in.

What I like about Nash Everett is all the services that they provide and how up front they are with all their information. They provide services such as:

  • Indoor Health Assessment

  • Home Evaluation

  • Moisture management

  • Mold Estimate

  • Duct Cleaning

  • Ventilation

These are services that not many people think they might need when they own a home. I love the idea that they come to your home for a home evaluation. They do indoor and outdoor evaluations where they check for any potential environmental concern. This is a service I will be using when we find our home. A home inspection does all the structural inspections but who’s checking all the other things?

Lets talk about your central air/heat. Did you know that you have to get your vents cleaned out 3 to 5 years? I can’t imagine how people don’t actually get their vents cleaned. Nash Everett says on their site that “our indoor environment is 2-5 times more toxic than our outdoor environment. Contaminants such as pet hair, dander, dust mites, bacteria, mold, cigarette smoke, chemicals and construction debris are distributed through your home via your duct system an average of 5-7 times per day.” I mean our home air quality is worse than the outdoor environment?! How is that even possible? This is one of the reasons why so many people struggle with asthma and many respiratory issues. So getting our ducts cleaned before we move into our new home is going to be one of our first steps.

Contact a professional such as Nash Everett if you’re a New Jersey local and if you’re interested in any of these services. Their prices are super reasonable and they don’t BS with any of their services. Watch out for any companies that use the “blow and go” duct cleaning process. They tend to over charge their customers for a crappy job if that process is used. Don’t just pick any cheap vent and mold company. A cheap job is never done properly. Nash Everett will communicate with you through the entire process from start to finish so there is no surprise fees. Best part is that Nash Everett will provide you with all the certifications, licensing and insurance before they start any work so you know their business is legit.
